2025 ILCA Olympic Format Test Event invite – TIME SENSITIVE

ILCA and World Sailing have been working together to define the race format for the LA28 Olympic Games.  Recently, an opportunity presented itself for an on-the water evaluation of a proposed format, but in less than two months!
With very short notice, we announce the 2025 ILCA Olympic Format Test Event to be held 07-12/October in Vilamoura, PORTUGAL.
Please share this information with your district members – this event is open to all ILCA members.
Additional information can be found on the ILCA Application site and the NOR posted there, but summarizing:
1) The event is set up to match the next Olympic competition, with 43 sailors in Men’s fleet and to 43 sailors in Women’s fleet.  Each country is initially allowed only one entry place, both to match the Olympic format and to obtain the widest range of feedback.  However, if places remain available, we will open registration to allow multiple representatives of a given country in order to fill the event.
2) The conventional application and registration process used for ILCA World Championships will be used, but has been compressed.  The initial application period will be only five days this week – Mon-Fri, 18-22/August.  Application approval and ranking will occur during three days over the weekend, with initial entry offers being sent on Tuesday 26/August.  And entry offers will have a duration of only three days.
3) There is no application fee and the entry fee is only EUR €150.  Charter boats will be available for EUR €700 (no pre-regatta charters), but are not required.

It has been a challenge to organize this event on such short notice, and it will be a challenge for applicants to review travel options and logistics, as well.  But it is a great opportunity for both competitors and race officials to evaluate what could be the Olympic format for LA28, and to identify how it could be improved.
Best regards,
The ILCA Team
